General Rules
and Regulations
Rule 1: General tags can be
picked up at the Art Hall on Monday
June 23, 2014 between 3 and 6 p.m. All items must be to its rightful
departments by Monday June 23 at 6 p.m. or item(s) will not be judged,
except for Pies and some Floriculture entries.
Please make sure that your entry is in the right class number and that
your tags are right. If you need help, ask the superintendent. Failure to have
the right tags on the right entry will result in a disqualification! Doors
close and judging begins promptly at 7 p.m.
Rule 2: All entries must be
the WORK OF THE EXHIBITIOR. Except for antique quilts and collections ONLY, in
which case you must be the owner. Exhibitor names that appear on any artwork,
photos, or on quilts must be covered until after judging! Notes to judges are
permitted.
Rule 3: Each exhibitor can
enter any number entries per class number! If entering two (2) items with the
same class number please enter the class number twice on your entry form 3
entries, enter 3 times etc. In order for you to get the right number of tags,
this must be done. Only entries on your original entry form will be allowed to
be exhibited. An item can only be entered under one (1) class number. No exhibitor can receive more than two
monies per class!
Rule 4: All work must have
been completed in the last two (2) years, unless otherwise listed. This doesn’t
apply to antiques, antique quilts, or collections. Any single exhibit entry winning a ribbon or
premium at this fair, can reentered only as part of a display entry the
following year. The maximum space
available for an exhibit is 18”x24”, except for table setting. Any class titled
display may use items in it to make an attractive eye catching display.
Rule 5:
Departments where Professional classes are indicated will be considered as the
following:
Professionals will be considered as anyone who sells an item on a regular basis
for a profit or is a recognized art instructor, photographer, ceramic instructor
or anyone who is a business owner of such an establishment or work or works for
said business. Amateurs will be considered as anyone who makes an item for a
hobby or for gifts or occasionally sell an item.
Rule 6: Awards will be made
by the single judge system. The judging will be closed, except for the pies on
Friday. The judge is instructed not to award premiums unless the articles are
deemed worthy of merit. If no competition exists and an article is not worthy
of 1st premium, the judge may award 2nd or 3rd
premium according to their judgment. All judge’s decisions are final.
Rule 7: Any reason to believe
that any entry is an attempt to deceive and obtain an award by
misrepresentation; the exhibitor may be expelled from showing at the fair for
at least TWO (2) YEARS. IF there is a problem in any department, please inform
the superintendents.
Rule 8: The Henry County Fair
Association takes reasonable precautions to insure the safety of all exhibits,
but in no case will the Fair Association or any of the superintendents be held
responsible for any loss, damage or injury to the property of any exhibit while
it is on the fair grounds.
Rule 9: Entries will be
allowed to the people of the whole world!!!!
Rule 10: All articles can be
removed from the Art Hall on 3pm Sunday June 29, 2014. The Art Hall closes at
6:00 p.m. that Sunday. If your entry is not picked up by that time, Rule 8 will
apply. Your premium checks will be available to you in the Art Hall at this
time. IF your check is not picked up the exhibitor will forfeit their premium
to the Henry County Fair Association. No premium check will be mailed out due
to the high cost of postage, unless a stamped self-addressed envelope is
provided to the fair office.
Rule
11: Best of show will be selected from designated
Department’s area’s blue ribbon exhibits. Next, Judge can award up to 3 Judges’
Choice Ribbons per area cited, and any item is eligible, except the Best of
Show exhibit. Sweepstakes is award on a point system: 1st Place 3 points; 2nd
Place 2 Points; 3rd Place 1 Point. Sweepstakes will be awarded when Superintendent
is notified by the office who is the recipients of sweepstakes award.
Junior Department General

groupings , P and P1 Department P is only open to any

Rule 1: Judging: Potted plants will be judged in
accordance with size, shape, health and vigor, flowers (if any, quantity and
quality). Plants are to be owned and cared for by the exhibitor for at least 1
months prior to the fair. Collections of SPECIMEN cut flowers will be judged in
accordance with the size of flowers, color, length of stem, stiffness of
foliage, quality and condition of flowers, number of flowers on a stem and
spacing of flowers. Floral ARRANGEMENTS will be judged in accordance with the
general effect, proportion, suitability of plant materials, color coordination
and initiative of the exhibitor. In the arrangements,
the flowers do not have to be grown by the exhibitor; however, arrangements
must be the handiwork of exhibitor and must not vary from the class “theme”.. Permanent
flowers, and or dried may be used, only where
specified. No Goldenrod or noxious weeds will be allowed.
Do not use “Plant Shine” of any kind.
Rule 2: Divisions are open to
amateurs. Class 1, 2, and 4 are also open to professionals as are specially
designated classes.. Professionals will
be considered anyone who sells an item on a regular basis or who is a business
owner or employee currently working as a floral designer.
Rule 4: Due to limited table
space, your arrangements in will be limited to an area of 18”x18”. No arranging
of flowers will be allowed in the Art Hall. Exhibitors must furnish their own
containers and accessories with your name and address on the container. Flowers
in are to be in glass or clear plastic containers or vases.

A fundraiser to support the Textile
Department of the Henry County Fair, since most of the state funding has
been cut the money raised will be designated for use in the Textile Department.
The Rules are simple. Purchase
one of the 55 of the designated fabric “fat quarter (s)” for $5.00. Create an item, quilted or not using
any techniques of style of your design and workmanship. You many use any fabric
to compliment the “fat
quarter that must be included somewhere in the project. You are encouraged to
enter the project in the
textile department during the 2014 Henry County Fair in the Quilt Challenge

A) Cakes may be single layer except where indicated. Frosting or toppings as desired. Recipes must

judging. The remaining will be donated to the 4-H food stand. or returned to exhibitor

entries in the canning division should be displayed in uniform measures. Soft
spreads, jams, and jellies being exhibited shall be in clear half pint up to

Rule 2: All entries in this
department must be mounted on disposable plates or cardboard. Foods such as
breads, cookies, candies, etc. must be put into plastic bags or covered with
plastic wrap.
Rule 3: PIES ARE TO BE IN BY NOON ON FRIDAY, JUNE 27th and are not sweepstake eligible.. All pie crusts can be made from lard, butter, or shortening or oil. No commercial canned fillings are to be used. All pies must be in disposable pie tins. One (1) piece of pie will be left for display. The remainder of the pie will be donated to the 4-H food stand or returned to exhibitor.

be on a hanger, ready to hang. It may be covered with plastic. Single Fresh Flowers .Must be in bud vase or plastic container. Single Fresh Flowers and Vegetables and Fruits may be GROWN BY THE
EXHIBITOR OR EXHIBITOR'S FAMILY. They are to be attractively displayed using
your choice of accessories, baskets, toy truck, etc. Remember that a DISPLAY
means an attractively arranged so it is eye-catching. Rhubarb should be on a disposable
plate or in an aluminum pie tin. Berries should be in non-breakable plastic
containers. All artwork MUST be ready to
hang with a sturdy cord or wire or entry will be disqualified. All
photographs must be framed or mounted on Cardboard or poster board and ready to
hang. Photograph frames may be the kind that will stand up. Any size photo. No
computer altered photos. COLLECTIONS AND SOUVENIRS can be OWNED BY EXHIBITOR OR
EXHIBITOR'S FAMILY. All collections have a table area of 18"x24".
